S.U.T.U.R.E
S.U.T.U.R.E. is an extensive research project.
An exploration of the relationship between transparency and opacity – between the functional and the symbolic –between lived experience and the imaginary. The S.U.T.U.R.E. project – an anagram of UTERUS – refers to the intimate, in a more organic and multidimensional way. This hidden part, which has fuelled so many imaginations, contains both multiple memories and future potential. At the same time, from a literal perspective, the word ‘suture’ can be defined, amongst other things, as: a stitch that joins tissues generally separated by accident (in surgery, for example) or as a line marking the separation of spaces originally distant from one another and representing a vanished intermediate space (in geology). It is these movements of fragmentation and reunion that will be at work.
